Wednesday
I manage to catch some R&B rasta pop carribean beats with Iyaz and Kevin Lyttle at fort canning together with Jessica. It was okay but not entirely jaw dropping experience for myself but definitely enjoyable nonetheless especially when they performed their hit songs! See.. it would work if I had a girl who is into sex music like that grinding me slowly working her moves downwards and turn round and start caressing my body and all, well that girl haven't exist yet.
We bounced earlier to catch a train ride to home club which was playing 80's pop and rave underground music videos! Even though the people who turn up was not really into the music, myself and Jess were happily seated inside watching at videos we never seen before! I mean have you seen Climie Fisher : Love Changes Everything? Starship : Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now? Enigma- sadness part ii? Simply red- stars ? I was happily seated watching all this videos and it was pure nostalgia !
Friday
An attempt to give my newly form band The Pocket Magik the magic it needed for Army of darkness, I was requested to proceed to Kurt's Studio (nick named Studio 51) to start working on it. I have learnt so much under Kurts guidance in terms of thinking process and having the right elements etc . It takes not only patience to choose the right sounds, but a wide range of musical knowledge to understand how to make a song work out well.Fair enough I crashed at his studio and we managed to finish remastering "Army of Darkness" and started developing an experimental tune!
Saturday
I received a pleasant tweet and information that Hasnor will be dropping our Track" Army of Darkness" on lush 99.5! Hehehhehehehe
Despite feeling totally drained out from the night before producing that new tune, I was invited by our ex intern Tze Ling who is a music enthusiast like myself to check out David Choi, unfortunately I missed the act completely but managed to catch probably one of the best punk hardcore band Chicosi last night. The star power they had was so great a mosh pit was created and I participated in the mosh:) 1 of the Many milestones completed! They had everything right, the sound engineers was great and they all were tight and the sound was exceptionally captivating. I manage to experience punk rock in that 45 minutes and began to understand it's roots. Punk is certainly not dead!
I found myself heading down to Zouk shortly after for what I would call the party of the year for the 12s! It's pretty awesome as there was a sub turntablism event prior to the actual party where my hommies DJ MOTIF and DJ Perk were performing their scratch Routine which is definitely fun to catch.
Flashing Forward after a few rounds of jäger bombs and a jug of unfinished whiskey dry and constant supplements of random sips of unknown alcohol, I found myself dancing to the 12s alongside with all the friends and acquaintances I've made throughout my life . Literally 10% of the dance floor was someone I knew and I was so happy I stood there bouncing to the fat basslines and wicked disco remixes of indie songs by MGMT , Ratatat, Daft Punk, Shinichi Osawa and many others ! Note that this are all performed live on the fly and the remixes is fresh! I am glad to be alongside many like minded music lovers dancing to the groove!
Sunday
With only 6 hours of sleep, I am up once again and was summoned by Kurt to check out more bands in baybeats (which actually is a 3 day music festival in case you're wondering) and btw Kurt was at the 12s the night before! This means I have met Kurt 3 days straight in a row! Damn!!!
I approached the esplanade hagen daz outlet and got to meet Shawn Livewire and Linda who are both extremely passionate over music (Shawn spins at Le Maison and Linda rocks the keyboard) I'm so glad to be in this festival with people who love music. It changes the whole dynamics and experience no doubt!
We caught a glimpse of Celina Foo, a 3 piece acoustic song writer style emotional ballads. The keyboardist is hot!
The Handsome Furs,a Canadian indie electronic band played shortly after and is probably one of the main highlights for me! They knew how to work the crowd out with their energy and I am totally in love with them! I totally connected with them on a musical level and they are definitely charismatic ! I'm getting their tracks for sure!
Another band that caught my attention was this hong kong band called Modern Children which I felt it was brilliant. What set them apart was that they play shoe gazing music with many analog instruments such as a modified xylophone, violins, erhu, some pan flute thingy, one octave accordion and many random stuff. Definitely an eye opening experience!
The Handsome Furs who played previously showed up for their second set and our entourage which was joined together with stas and rob and Gwen all music heads found ourselves seated in front eagerly captivated by their showmanship ! It's almost like if you missed baybeats, it's kinda alright but if u missed them , it truly was your loss. Yup they are that good! They are musicians and performers infused in one and their formulas perfect!
To end the whole saga of this crazy explorative musical week, we found ourself partying extremely hard to MIXHELL ! Dropping wicked electro club tunes and what set them apart was that when the man started walking towards the drum set and jammed alongside with the beats! It felt like I was watching soulwax and they truly worked the crowd so good everyone was practically clubbing on a Sunday in the open arena ! There was crowd surfing and the experience is mad! It is definitely the best way to end the week and I'm glad I was in every single event!
